Softball Recap: Shawnee Triumphs

Shawnee's game on Monday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Wednesday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with an 8-6 win over the Jefferson Wildcats. The victory continues a trend for the Indians in their matchups with the Wildcats: they've now won four in a row.

Addie Melson spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and three unearned) runs on seven hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Michayla Browning and Ameilia Hasting did most of the damage at the plate: Browning went 2-for-5 with four RBI and two doubles, while Hasting went 2-for-3 with three RBI, one run, and one double. Those three RBI gave Hasting a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Kacie Carroll, who got on base in two of her four plate appearances with three runs and one stolen base.

The win got Shawnee back to even at 6-6. As for Jefferson, their defeat ended a five-game streak of away wins and brought them to 10-5.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Shawnee will take on Defiance at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Jefferson, they will face off against Continental at 5:00 p.m. on Friday.
