Basketball Recap: Bre Nelson's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Pace over Edcouch-Elsa

Pace was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their fifth straight loss. They took a 35-24 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Edcouch-Elsa Yellowjackets. Sadly, that's the second time they've come up short against the Vikings this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 32-25 back in December of 2024.

Pace's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Bre Nelson, who posted two points in addition to six steals and five boards. Nelson has been hot recently, having posted six or more steals the last three times she's played. Another player making a difference was Andrea Salgado, who put up five points and three steals.

Pace's loss dropped their record down to 9-17. As for Edcouch-Elsa, they pushed their record up to 9-12 with the win, which was their third straight at home.

Pace will face off against Lopez at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Lopez will roll in looking for their sixth straight victory, something Pace surely won't give up without a fight. Edcouch-Elsa has already played their next matchup (against Weslaco East), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
