Baseball Game Preview: Newark Memorial Cougars vs. Alameda Hornets

The Newark Memorial Cougars will challenge the Alameda Hornets at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. The timing is sure in Newark Memorial's favor as the squad sits on three straight wins at home while Alameda has been banged up by five consecutive losses on the road.

Newark Memorial fought the good fight in their extra-innings contest against Washington on Friday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Huskies by a score of 9-8. The game snapped a strange streak: the last four times these teams have met, it?s been the away team that?s taken home the W.

Noah Hanohano put in work while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out seven over five innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in seven consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-5 with one home run. That home run marked the first that he has launched this season.

In other pitching news, Newark Memorial got a good showing from Max Segura, who pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Segura has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances.
