Baseball Recap: Jay Takes a Loss

Jay fought the good fight in their extra-innings matchup against South San Antonio on Monday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell 6-1 to the South San Antonio Bobcats. The loss continues a trend for the Mustangs in their meetings with the Bobcats: they've now lost three in a row.

Daniel Rodriguez was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing seven innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off one hit. That's the fewest hits he has allowed since back in March of 2024. He was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 1-for-3.

Jay suffered their first home defeat, dropping their record down to 3-5. As for South San Antonio, they pushed their record up to 11-3 with the victory, which was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season.

Looking ahead, Jay will take on MacArthur at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. MacArthur's pitching crew has only allowed 3.7 runs per game this season, so Jay's hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for South San Antonio, a feisty cat fight will be fought as South San Antonio Bobcats duke it out with Southside Cardinals at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday. Southside will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each contest than the last.
