Softball Recap: Lynn Sets Scoring Season-High Against Phillips

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Lynn). They were the clear victor by an 18-5 margin over Phillips on Tuesday. The team's explosion at the plate also rewarded Lynn with their most commanding win of the season.

Kaylee Wiginton looked comfortable as she struck out eight batters over four innings while giving up three earned (and two unearned) runs off six hits. The dominant performance gave her a new career-high in strikeouts.

At the plate, Lynn let Amy Barton and Molly Pate run wild. Barton went 2-for-4 with three runs, one triple, and one RBI, while Pate scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-2. Those three runs gave Barton a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Maddie Brooke Rutledge, who scored two runs while going 1-for-4.

Lynn's victory bumped their record up to 7-4-1. As for Phillips, their defeat was their 14th straight at home dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 0-10.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Lynn will head out to square off against Vina at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Lynn is facing Vina at the right time seeing as Vina is stuck on a nine-game losing streak. As for Phillips, they will head out on the road to take on Brilliant at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Phillips has given up an average of 14.5 runs per game this season, so hopefully the team got some pitching drills in this week.
