Baseball Recap: Western Comes Up Short

Western extended their losing streak to four on Friday, dropping them down to 7-11. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost an 8-6 heartbreaker at the hands of the Pinecrest Academy Cadence Cougars. The Warriors were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Cougars apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in April of 2025.

Daniel Garcia Tapia and Edgar Garcia stepped up to the plate in a big way. Garcia Tapia got on base in all four of his plate appearances with four stolen bases and three runs, while Garcia went 3-for-4 with two triples, two runs, and one stolen base. Garcia is becoming a predictor of Western's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 5-2 (and 2-9 when he doesn't). Another player making a difference was Mikey Triana, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, one double, and one RBI.

As for Pinecrest Academy Cadence, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 4-11. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.5 runs over those games.

On Pinecrest Academy Cadence's side, Dillon Pierce looked comfortable as he struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Those seven strikeouts gave Pierce a new career-high.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Braxton Schiess, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one double. That's the most runs he has posted since back in April of 2025. Camrith Fernandes was another key player, going 1-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Western will face off against Eldorado at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Sundevils have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 7.2 runs per game on average), something the Warriors will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Pinecrest Academy Cadence, they will challenge Sports Leadership & Management at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Bulls have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 10.2 runs per game on average), something the Cougars will no doubt try to take advantage of.
