Preview: Asheville Cougars vs. Enka Jets
Asheville is 8-0 against Enka since October of 2014, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The Asheville Cougars will look to defend their home field against the Enka Jets at 7:00 p.m. Enka took a loss in their last contest and will be looking to turn the tables on Asheville, who comes in off a win.
Asheville fell on hard times earlier this season, but after back-to-back wins it seems like their luck might finally be changing. They simply couldn't be stopped on Thursday as they easily beat North Buncombe 59-12 on the road. Given Asheville's advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina football rankings (they are ranked 137th, while North Buncombe is ranked 327th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Asheville's success was spearheaded by the efforts of Josh Ellis, who rushed for 66 yards and two touchdowns, and Kyheem Plummer, who rushed for 98 yards and two touchdowns on only five carries. Plummer's longest rush was for an incredible 79 yards. Nic Williams was another key contributor, rushing for 54 yards and a touchdown on only six carries.
Meanwhile, Enka was beaten by North Henderson 42-10 on Thursday. Enka was down 42-3 at the end of the third quarter, which was just too much to recover from.
Asheville's victory bumped their record up to 4-5. As for Enka, they have traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost five of their last six contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-6 record this season.
Everything came up roses for Asheville against Enka in their previous matchup back in October of 2022 as the team secured a 34-0 victory. Does Asheville have another victory up their sleeve, or will Enka turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
