Basketball Recap: Aguilar Takes a Loss

Aguilar was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their sixth straight defeat. They came up short against the Sangre de Cristo Thunderbirds, falling 57-32. If the Wildcats were looking for revenge after losing 48-13 to them when the teams met, then they'll just have to keep looking.

When it comes to explaining why Aguilar lost, don't look at Matthew Gonzales. Despite the final result, he dropped a double-double on 18 points and 13 boards. Gonzales is crushing it when it comes to rebounds: he's pulled down at least nine every time he's taken the court this season. Logan Cortez was another key player, putting up four points and eight boards.

Aguilar's loss dropped their record down to 0-6. As for Sangre de Cristo, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 9-5.

Aguilar will have a little extra prep time after the defeat as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Primero at 6:00 p.m. on February 13th. Sangre de Cristo has already played their next contest, a 39-22 win against Creede on the 31st.
