Preview: Southampton Academy Raiders vs. Amelia Academy Patriots
Southampton Academy and Amelia Academy are an even 5-5 against one another since February of 2015, but not for long. The Southampton Academy Raiders will head out on the road to take on the Amelia Academy Patriots at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Given that both teams suffered a loss in their last game, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this game.
Last Monday, Southampton Academy came up short against Blessed Sacrament-Huguenot and fell 47-38.
Meanwhile, sadly, Amelia Academy is still looking for their first win of the season after 11 contests. They received a tough blow on Monday as they fell 54-35 to Grove Christian School. Amelia Academy found out winning isn't easy when you don't work as a unit and post 14 fewer assists than your opponent.
Despite the defeat, Amelia Academy had strong showings from Macy Barnard, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 11 rebounds, and Isabella Arbitelle, who scored 16 points along with six steals. That was a full 45.7% of Amelia Academy's points, marking the ninth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points.
Southampton Academy has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-7 record this season. As for Amelia Academy, their defeat was their 13th straight at home dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 0-11.
Everything went Southampton Academy's way against Amelia Academy in their previous meeting on Wednesday as Southampton Academy made off with a 39-15 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Southampton Academy since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
