Softball Recap: Kirtland Hornets vs. Crestwood Red Devils

Kirtland was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their ninth straight loss. They took a 7-2 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Crestwood Red Devils. Kirtland was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Crestwood apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played on April 10th.

Ava Puruczky was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-4 with a home run and a double.

On Crestwood's side, Bella Hunter was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She struck out ten batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned runs off ten hits. Hunter has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't pitched less than five innings in eight consecutive pitching appearances. Hunter was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 2-for-3.

In other batting news, Crestwood got a big performance out of Kaitlyn Huffman, who scored a run while going 2-for-2. Another player making a difference was Alyssa Hallis, who scored a run and stole two bases while going 1-for-3.

Kirtland's loss dropped their record down to 1-12. As for Crestwood, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 6-6.

Kirtland will head out on the road to take on Grand Valley at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Crestwood, they will stay at home for another game and welcome Cardinal at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
