Baseball Game Preview: Calvary Christian Cougar vs. Fayetteville Street Christian Patriots

The Calvary Christian Cougar will face off against the Fayetteville Street Christian Patriots at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Calvary Christian is coming into the contest on a three-game losing streak.

Calvary Christian blew Gospel Light Christian out of the water the last time the pair played, but on Thursday Gospel Light Christian got their revenge. The Cougar fell just short of Gospel Light Christian by a score of 4-2. The match marked the Cougar's lowest-scoring game so far this season.

Meanwhile, it can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Fayetteville Street Christian had no problem doing just that on Saturday. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past the Rams 5-3. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Patriots have posted since April 18, 2024.

Connor Allred made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out six batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off seven hits (and only one walk). He also tossed a walk, which is notable because Fayetteville Street Christian is undefeated when he allows at most one walk, but 3-7 otherwise. Allred was also big at the plate, earning two RBI and two stolen bases.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Logan Morrison, who got on base in three of his five plate appearances with three stolen bases and two runs. He has become a key player for Fayetteville Street Christian: the team is 4-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 2-6 otherwise. Everything went Calvary Christian's way against Fayetteville Street Christian when the teams last played back in April, as Calvary Christian made off with a 10-0 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Cougar since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
