Softball Game Preview: Bellevue Tigers vs. Newport Wildcats

Bellevue has gone 8-2 against Newport recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Tuesday. The Tigers will look to defend their home field against the Wildcats at 5:00 p.m. Bellevue is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.3 runs per game this season.

Having struggled with six losses in a row, Bellevue turned things around against Dayton on Monday. They walked away with a 13-8 win over the Greendevils. The game was the first time the Tigers have beaten the Greendevils on their field since April 14, 2022.

Paulina Long was a standout: she went 3-for-4 with three runs and three doubles. Those three hits gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Jayda Dowell, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one double.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Bellevue kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.

Meanwhile, Newport came up short against Holmes on Wednesday, falling 16-1. The Wildcats have struggled against the Bulldogs recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive lost meeting.

Newport's defeat dropped their record down to 1-13. As for Bellevue, their victory bumped their record up to 7-12.

Bellevue took their win against Newport when the teams last played back in April by a conclusive 24-0 score. Do the Tigers have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Wildcats turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
