Softball Recap: Independence Comes Up Short

Independence fought the good fight in their extra-innings game against Silver Creek on Tuesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Raiders by a score of 9-7. The 76ers' defeat continues a trend for the squad, making it four in a row.

Julieta Ramirez spent all 7.1 innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered seven earned (and two unearned) runs on nine hits and racked up 14 Ks. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Skylar Crowell made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 1-for-5 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. Lili Rodriguez was another key player, going 3-for-4 with two RBI.

Independence's loss dropped their record down to 8-13. As for Silver Creek, they are on a roll lately: they've won ten of their last 13 matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-8 record this season.
