Volleyball Recap: Upland Highlanders/Scots vs. Chino Hills Huskies
After flying high against Claremont last Tuesday, Upland came back down to earth. Upland fell 3-1 to the Chino Hills Huskies on Thursday. The match marked the Highlanders/Scots' lowest-scoring game so far this season.
While Upland had to settle for second, they sure made a game of it, scoring at least 18 points in every set they played. The final score came out to 25-20, 14-25, 25-20, 25-18.
Eypreel Mendoza paced Upland's offense, picking up ten kills. Mendoza got some help from Aiden DuFour and his 28 assists. Finally, Evan Arroyo kept Upland's defense grounded, leading the team with six blocks.
Chino Hills got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Anthony Sabbara out in front who had 39 assists and 15 digs. Those 15 digs gave Sabbara a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Sean Spicer, who had 24 kills, ten digs, and one block.
Having lost for the first time this season, Upland fell to 10-1. As for Chino Hills, they have been performing well recently as they've won six of their last eight contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-6 record this season.
Upland will have a little extra prep time after the loss as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Rancho Cucamonga at 4:45 p.m. on April 1. The last three games Rancho Cucamonga has played have been within one set, so don't be surprised if it's a close one. As for Chino Hills, they have already played their next game, a 3-2 defeat against Claremont on the 25th.
