Baseball Recap: Portage Comes Up Short

Portage extended their losing streak to four on Tuesday, dropping their season record down to 9-7-1 in the process. They lost 8-2 to Lake Central. The result was an unpleasant reminder to Portage of the 3-0 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in May of 2024.

As for Lake Central, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 15-3. Eight seems to be a good number for they as the team scooped up a win with the same number of runs in their previous game.

For Lake Central's part, Josh Flores tossed a big game, striking out 12 batters over 6.1 innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off two hits. Those 12 strikeouts gave Flores a new career-high.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Drew Kosteba, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Jacob Zimmerman, who went 2-for-4 with one run and one RBI.

While Portage had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
