Volleyball Recap: Saturday's Defeat Ends Xavier's Winning Streak

Xavier and Luxemburg-Casco squared off in some playoff action on Saturday, but Xavier had to settle for second. They lost 3-0 to the Spartans. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss the Hawks have suffered since October 31, 2024.

Xavier's defeat came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Bella Velasquez, who had 14 digs and three aces. Velasquez is on a roll when it comes to aces, as she's now served two or more in each of the last six games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Grace Hackl, who had ten digs and two assists.

Leading Luxemburg-Casco to victory were Danica Bartels and Alayna Heurkens. Bartels had eight digs, while Heurkens had two aces and one assist. That's the most aces Heurkens has posted since back in September.

The loss snapped Xavier's winning streak at seven matches and leaves them with a 30-11 record. As for Luxemburg-Casco, the win (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 34-12.

Xavier does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Luxemburg-Casco, they will face off against Waupaca on Friday.
