Softball Game Preview: Central Wildcats vs. Brooks Lions

For the second straight game, Central will face off against Brooks. The Wildcats will look to defend their home field on Thursday against the Lions at 3:30 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Central has five straight wins, Brooks has three straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

Central will bounce into Thursday's matchup after beating Brooks, who they had gone 1-8 against in their nine prior meetings. The Wildcats walked away with a 6-2 victory over the Lions on Tuesday.

Chloe May made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She tossed seven innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off eight hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-4.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Mycah Beth Ray, who went 2-for-3 with two runs and one triple. Another player making a difference was Ali Thompson, who scored two runs while going 2-for-3.

Central kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in five consecutive contests.

Central pushed their record up to 19-6 with the win, which was their sixth straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.7 runs over those games. As for Brooks, their loss dropped their record down to 12-11.

Both Central and Brooks just can't seem to miss. The Wildcats have been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 10 hits per game. However, it's not like Brooks struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 5.4 hits.
