Basketball Game Preview: Chiefland Indians vs. Trenton Tigers

Chiefland and Trenton are an even 5-5 against one another since February of 2019, but not for long. Having just played yesterday, the Chiefland Indians will head out on the road to face off against the Trenton Tigers at 8:00 p.m. on Friday.

Chiefland is headed into the matchup out to prove that what happened against Hawthorne on Thursday (when they were outscored in every quarter) was just a minor bump in the road. Chiefland came up short against Hawthorne, falling 55-35. The loss continues a trend for the Indians in their matchups with the Hornets: they've now lost seven in a row.

Meanwhile, Trenton came tearing into Tuesday's contest with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 20.3 points) and they left with even more momentum. They took their game with ease, bagging a 74-36 win over the Rams. The Tigers have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won six matches by 31 points or more this season.

Trenton's win came from a few key players Chiefland will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Clark Hausner, who went 8 for 13 en route to 18 points along with eight assists and five boards. That's the most rebounds he has posted since back in February of 2024. Mason VunCannon was another key player, going 5 of 7 on his way to 16 points.

Trenton was working as a unit and finished the game with 22 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Interlachen only racked up five assists.

Chiefland's defeat dropped their record down to 10-6. As for Trenton, their record is now an identical 10-6.

Chiefland came up short against Trenton in their previous meeting last Thursday, falling 57-45. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of VunCannon, who went 8 for 10 en route to 17 points in addition to six boards and five steals.
