Bishop Gorman faced Las Vegas in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Thursday. The Gaels blew past the Wildcats 10-0. Considering the Gaels have won six matches by more than six runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

James Whitaker tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run while striking out seven over five innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in March.

On the hitting side, Jonas Yatson and Koa Young did most of the damage at the plate: Yatson scored two runs while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances, while Young scored three runs while going 2-for-3. Those three runs gave Young a new career-high. Alec Kajioka was another key player, scoring two runs while going 2-for-2.

Bishop Gorman always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .606. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Las Vegas only posted an OBP of .200.

Bishop Gorman moved to 12-8 with that victory, which also ended their three-game losing streak. As for Las Vegas, their defeat dropped their record down to 16-6.

Coming up, Bishop Gorman will take on Capistrano Valley Christian at 3:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Las Vegas, they will challenge Faith Lutheran at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday.
