Springfield Southeast falls despite strong effort from Marisa Gant

The Springfield Southeast Spartans's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Thursday after their third straight loss. They were outmatched by Peoria at home and fell 70-34. While losing is never fun, Springfield Southeast can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 337th, while Peoria is ranked eighth).

When it comes to explaining why Springfield Southeast lost, one person who can't be blamed is Marisa Gant. Despite the final result, she scored nine points along with eight rebounds and four steals. Gant scored a full 26.5% of Springfield Southeast's points, the sixth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points.

Springfield Southeast has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost five of their last six contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-8 record this season. As for Peoria, the win for they keeps them at an undefeated 11-0.

Springfield Southeast won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Lanphier at 7:00 p.m. on December 15th. As for Peoria, they will head out on the road to face off against Manual at 6:00 p.m. on Monday.
