Chatfield hasn't had much luck against Valor Christian recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Chargers will challenge the Eagles at 4:00 p.m. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this game.
Chatfield came into this matchup off a tough seven-run loss on Thursday. This time they kept things ultra-competitive, but unfortunately the final result was the same. They fell just short of Arvada West by a score of 4-2 on Saturday. The Chargers have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Riley Suddath was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he struck out seven batters over 5.2 innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits.
Meanwhile, Valor Christian fought the good fight in their extra-innings matchup against ThunderRidge on Thursday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Grizzlies by a score of 7-6. The Eagles' defeat continues a trend for the team, making it four in a row.
Valor Christian also got a good showing from Sennon Lawrence, who struck out eight batters over 3.1 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Those zero hits allowed gave Lawrence a new career-low.
On the hitting side, Cody Dean was cooking despite his team's loss, scoring two runs while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. Ben Blasco also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.
Chatfield's record is now 7-6. As for Valor Christian, their record now sits at 2-9.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Tuesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Chatfield has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.3 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Valor Christian struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 6.9 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Chatfield came up short against Valor Christian in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, falling 5-1. Can the Chargers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
