Basketball Recap: Oscar Smith Takes a Loss

Oscar Smith was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They took a blow against the Grassfield Grizzlies, falling 70-30. While losing is never fun, the Tigers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 196th, while the Grizzlies are ranked 27th).

Oscar Smith's loss came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Amya Price, who posted eight points and 11 rebounds. Oscar Smith is 2-1 when Price posts ten or more boards, but 5-11 otherwise. Zyonna Ellis was another key player, putting up seven points and seven rebounds.

Amaya Fisher had a dynamite game for Grassfield, going 8-for-13 on her way to 21 points and five steals. That's the most points Fisher has posted since back in January of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Kennedy Reid, who dropped a double-double with 13 points and ten boards.

Oscar Smith's defeat dropped their record down to 7-12. As for Grassfield, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 16-3.

Oscar Smith wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 47-19 loss against Indian River on the 11th. As for Grassfield, they have also already played their next matchup, a 70-32 victory against Lakeland on the 11th.
