Volleyball Recap: Richland Falls Despite Big Games from Stella Mendez and Adyson Otwell

Richland was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their sixth straight defeat. They lost 3-0 to the Fossil Ridge Panthers. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss the Royals have suffered against the Panthers since August 27, 2019.

While Richland had to settle for second, they sure made a game of it, scoring at least 21 points in every set they played. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-21, 25-23, 25-23.

Richland's loss came despite strong showings from Adyson Otwell and Stella Mendez. Otwell had 21 digs and two assists, while Mendez had nine digs. Otwell has been hot, having posted 12 or more digs the last five times she's played. Lily Drees also deserves some recognition as she served her first ace of the season.

Richland's defeat dropped their record down to 6-12. As for Fossil Ridge, the win was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 11-12.

Richland wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 3-0 victory against Crowley on the 30th. As for Fossil Ridge, they will face off against Martin at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
