Softball Game Preview: Burke Catholic vs. Goshen Central Gladiators

Burke Catholic will venture away from home to take on the Goshen Central Gladiators at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.

Burke Catholic came up short against Eldred back in April, falling 26-3. Burke Catholic hasn't had much luck with Eldred recently, as the team has come up short the last four times they've met.

Valley Central hit Goshen Central with a four-run first inning on Thursday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Gladiators fell just short of the Vikings by a score of 5-4. The Gladiators' loss signaled the end of their four-game winning streak.

Addison Freiberger spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and four unearned) runs on ten hits and racked up six Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Anna Mayo was cooking despite her team's loss, going 1-for-3 with one home run and three RBI.

Burke Catholic now has a losing record of 1-2. As for Goshen Central, their defeat dropped their record down to 9-3.

Burke Catholic suffered a grim 19-0 defeat to Goshen Central in their previous meeting back in May of 2017. Can Burke Catholic avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
