If Virgin Valley beats Mater Academy East Las Vegas with 46 points on Friday, it's going to be the team's new lucky number: they've won their past two matchups with that exact score. Virgin Valley simply couldn't be stopped on Wednesday as they easily beat Democracy Prep Agassi Campus 46-0. The Bulldogs' defense has been rock solid lately; the team hasn't given up a point in their last four games.
It was another big night for Davie Slack, who threw for 173 yards and five touchdowns, and also rushed for 34 yards and two touchdowns. Linita Kioa was in the mix too, providing Virgin Valley with two touchdowns.
Meanwhile, Mater Academy East Las Vegas faced Moapa Valley in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Wednesday. Mater Academy East Las Vegas enjoyed a cozy 29-12 win over Moapa Valley. The victory was nothing new for the Knights as they're now sitting on three straight.
Mater Academy East Las Vegas found their leader in sophomore Cheyanne Thornhill, who threw for 183 yards and four touchdowns, and also rushed for 51 yards on only six carries. That's the most passing touchdowns Thornhill has posted since back in December of 2024. Another player making a difference was Jasmine White, who rushed for 113 yards on only 13 carries.
Mater Academy East Las Vegas didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off three passes before the game was over. It was truly a group effort as Leah Gomez-Vidal, Noelia Molina, and Lilibeth Rico Murillo picked up one apiece.
Virgin Valley's win was their 16th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 10-1. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 35.8 points. As for Mater Academy East Las Vegas, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven contests, which provided a nice bump to their 11-4 record this season.
Friday's match will pit two of the most dominant signal callers against one another: Slack and Thornhill. Slack just won't slow down this season and has thrown 39 touchdowns (and and only 4 picks) while averaging 168.2 passing yards per game. Thornhill has been a dominant force too and has thrown 22 touchdowns while averaging 146.1 passing yards per game.
Everything came up roses for Virgin Valley against Mater Academy East Las Vegas when the teams last played back in December of 2024, as the squad secured a 46-0 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Virgin Valley since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
