Soccer Game Preview: Shelby County vs. Calera

Shelby County hasn't had much luck against Calera recently, but that could start to change on Wednesday. The Wildcats will challenge the Eagles at 7:15 p.m.

Shelby County is headed into Wednesday's match looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their fourth straight game on Tuesday. They took a 4-2 hit to the loss column at the hands of Tarrant. The game was a 2-2 toss-up at halftime, but Shelby County couldn't quite close it out.

Angel Pati?o and Taylor (TJ) Minton scored both of Shelby County's goals, bringing their combined season tally to 14 goals.

Meanwhile, Calera faced Thompson in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Tuesday. The Eagles never let the Warriors get on the board and left with a 3-0 win. The result was nothing new for Calera, who have now won ten contests by three goals or more so far this season.

Calera is on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last ten matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-5-1 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they scored 41 goals over those ten games. As for Shelby County, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-9.

Shelby County suffered a grim 11-1 defeat to Calera in their previous matchup back in April of 2022. Can the Wildcats avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
