Baseball Game Preview: Rio Americano Raiders vs. Pioneer Patriots

The Rio Americano Raiders will square off against the Pioneer Patriots at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Rio Americano will be strutting in after a win while Pioneer will be coming in after a loss.

Rio Americano is looking to give their home crowd another W after opening their season at home on Saturday. Their pitchers stepped up to hand Casa Roble a 9-0 shutout. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest victory the Raiders have posted against the Rams since April 15, 2016.

Kyler Benton made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and only two hits while striking out ten over four innings pitched. Benton was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with one home run, two stolen bases, and two runs.

In other batting news, Everett Filippo was excellent, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. Parker Fowler was another key player, scoring two runs while going 1-for-3.

Rio Americano always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .559. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Casa Roble only posted an OBP of .231.

Pioneer kicked off their season on the road on Wednesday and hit a couple of potholes. They took a 9-4 hit to the loss column at the hands of Inderkum.

Pioneer also got a good showing from Maverick Gill, who pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit.

At the plate, Jack Cullison made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-3.
