Umatilla and The Villages Charter are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2019, but likely not for long. The Bulldogs will face off against the Buffalo at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Umatilla is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.8 runs per game this season.
Umatilla was handed a ten-run loss in their previous outing, but that didn't affect their clutch gene on Monday. They skirted past Leesburg 8-7. The Bulldogs haven't had any issues with the Yellow Jackets recently, as the game was their ninth consecutive win against them.
Jaelyn Larsen and Chloe Rumford made a splash no matter where they played. On the mound, Larsen tossed 3.2 innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. Meanwhile, Rumford pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off four hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one walk in four consecutive appearances. At the plate, Larsen scored a run while going 2-for-4, while Rumford went 1-for-4 with one triple and one run.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Aliyah Duncan, who scored a run while going 1-for-3.
Meanwhile, The Villages Charter posted their closest victory since February 22nd on Monday. They had just enough and edged out Lake Minneola 4-3.
The Villages Charter also got a great performance from Haylee Nobles as she pitched six innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits.
At the plate, Payton West was excellent, scoring a run while going 3-for-4. Those three hits gave her a new career-high. Lexy Sanchez was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-4.
The Villages Charter pushed their record up to 10-8 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.3 runs over those games. As for Umatilla, their record is now 7-13.
Both Umatilla and The Villages Charter just can't seem to miss. The Bulldogs have been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 8.9 hits per game. However, it's not like The Villages Charter struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 4.3 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Umatilla skirted past The Villages Charter 8-6 in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Will the Bulldogs repeat their success, or do the Buffalo have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
