Baseball Recap: Darlington Comes Up Short

The matchup between Darlington and South Florence on Thursday hardly resembled the 4-0 effort from their previous meeting. Darlington lost 19-4 to South Florence. The Falcons' defeat continues a trend for the squad, making it five in a row.

Darlington saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Chad Rubin, who went 1-for-2 with two RBI. Those two RBI gave Rubin a new career-high. Corey Martin also deserves some recognition as he got his first hit of the season.

Darlington's loss dropped their record down to 1-7. As for South Florence, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-4 record this season.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Darlington will face off against Lower Richland at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Lower Richland has struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 9.63 runs per game on average), something Darlington will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for South Florence, they will take on East Clarendon at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. East Clarendon will roll in looking for their sixth straight win, something South Florence surely won't give up without a fight.
