Baseball Recap: Hawkins Sets Scoring Season-High Against Fruitvale

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Hawkins). Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Fruitvale Bobcats a 19-0 shutout on Tuesday. The result was nothing new for the Hawks, who have now won 13 matches by eight runs or more so far this season.

Eli Smith was a major factor no matter where he played. He tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in six consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 2-for-3.

In other batting news, Trevin Tanner was a standout: he scored three runs and stole a base while going 2-for-2. He has been hot, having posted at least one stolen base the last six times he's played. Riggin Smith was another key player, going a perfect 1-for-1 with one home run, one stolen base, and two RBI.

Hawkins kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Fruitvale only managed two hits.

The win (which was Hawkins' third in a row) raised their record to 19-7-1. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.7 runs over those games. As for Fruitvale, they dropped their record down to 2-10 with the defeat, which was their fourth straight at home.

Hawkins will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Bobcats: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday.
