Volleyball Recap: Rootstown Starts off Right with Win over United

Rootstown gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Saturday. They won by a set and slipped past the United Golden Eagles 3-2. The win continues a trend for the Rovers in their matchups with the Golden Eagles: they've now won six in a row.

It was an exciting match in which no team won back-to-back sets, but at the end of the day Rootstown got the one that really mattered. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-20, 21-25, 25-18, 15-25, 16-14.

Colbie Curall paced Rootstown's offense, picking up 18 kills. Curall got some help from Kylie Shelly and her 17 assists. Finally, Curall was also a dominant defender, finishing with a team-high six blocks.

Despite the loss, United still got an impressive performance from Baylee Smith, who had 33 digs. Smith has been hot recently, having posted 13 or more digs the last three times she's played.

Rootstown wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 3-0 loss against Newton Falls on the 18th. As for United, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 3-0 victory against Alliance on the 18th.
