Volleyball Recap: Rootstown Starts Season with Victory at Home

Rootstown took care of business in their home opener (barely) on Saturday. They won by a set and slipped past the United Golden Eagles 3-2. The victory continues a trend for the Rovers in their matchups with the Golden Eagles: they've now won six in a row.

The match was a true back-and-forth as no team won consecutive sets, but in the end it was Rootstown who won the one that mattered. The final score came out to 25-20, 21-25, 25-18, 15-25, 16-14.

Colbie Curall paced Rootstown's offense, picking up 18 kills. Curall got some help from Kylie Shelly and her 17 assists. Finally, Curall was also a dominant defender, finishing with a team-high six blocks.

Despite the loss, United still got an impressive performance from Baylee Smith, who had 33 digs. Smith has been hot recently, having posted 13 or more digs the last three times she's played.

Rootstown has already played their next game (against Newton Falls), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. As for United, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next matchup, a 3-0 win against Alliance on the 18th.
