Volleyball Recap: Gridley Takes a Loss

Gridley was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They fell 3-1 to the Pierce Bears. If the Bulldogs were looking for revenge after losing 3-1 to the Bears when the teams met back in August of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Gridley was was forced to take the loss, but they sure made Pierce work for it, especially in the first set. The final score came out to 26-24, 26-28, 25-15, 25-16.

Iris Counihan paced Gridley's offense, picking up 14 kills. Counihan got some help from Isabel Santillan and her 37 assists. Santillan was also solid from the service line: she led the team with seven aces.

Gridley's loss dropped their record down to 11-6. As for Pierce, they have been performing well recently as they've won ten of their last 12 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-6 record this season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Gridley will face off against Red Bluff at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Pierce, they will take on Durham at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
