Softball Recap: Hampden Gets the Win

Hampden barely beat Messalonskee the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Broncos' pitcher stepped up to hand the Eagles a 6-0 shutout on Wednesday. The Broncos have beaten the Eagles the last three times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Eagles has come to flipping the script.

Not much got past Cat Facchini, who gave up just three hits and racked up 17 Ks to keep Messalonskee off the board. Those 17 strikeouts set a new season-high mark for Facchini.

On the hitting side, Aubrey Shaw was incredible, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one double. That triple was her first of the season. Piper Parker was another key player, going 1-for-2 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.

The victory got Hampden back to even at 2-2. As for Messalonskee, their defeat was their fifth straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 0-4.

We've got plenty of inter-region action coming up soon. Hampden is set to face off against their familiar foe Bangor at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Meanwhile, Messalonskee will challenge rival Camden Hills at 4:00 p.m. on Friday.
