Softball Game Preview: Pen Argyl Green Knights vs. Stroudsburg Mountaineers

Pen Argyl is 0-4 against Stroudsburg since May of 2016 but things could change on Monday. Pen Argyl will venture away from home to challenge Stroudsburg at 4:00 p.m. Pen Argyl's pitching crew has only allowed 2.7 runs per game this season, so Stroudsburg's hitters will have their work cut out for them.

Stroudsburg will be up against a hot Pen Argyl squad: the team just extended their winning streak to three. Pen Argyl never let Northern Lehigh get on the board and left with a 3-0 win on Saturday. Give the Green Knights' pitching crew some credit: that's the team's third straight shutout.

The result came thanks to Jillian Bradley's shutout, as she gave up just four hits and racked up 12 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts any time she's pitched this season.

On the hitting side, Ashlyn Oessenick was excellent, scoring a run while going 2-for-3.

Meanwhile, Stroudsburg might've scored the first runs on Friday, but it was Whitehall who claimed the real prize. Stroudsburg took a 6-2 hit to the loss column at the hands of Whitehall. The loss was the Mountaineers' first of the season.

Stroudsburg saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Dorothy Elko, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base. That stolen base was Elko's first of the season.

Pen Argyl pushed their record up to 5-2 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.3 runs on average over those games. As for Stroudsburg, their loss was their first of the season and makes their record 3-1.

Monday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Pen Argyl hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .313. However, it's not like Stroudsburg struggles in that department as they've averaged .375. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.

Pen Argyl suffered a grim 15-0 defeat to Stroudsburg when the teams last played back in May of 2022. Can Pen Argyl avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
