Basketball Recap: Jena Comes Up Short

Jena was the 60-56 winner over Marksville when they last played one another back in February of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The Jena Giants came up short against the Marksville Tigers on Friday, falling 62-42. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss the Giants have suffered against the Tigers since January 11, 2022.

Leading Marksville to victory were Braylen Bazile and Dayne Small. Bazile posted 30 points, while Small had 18 points in addition to six boards and three steals. The matchup was Bazile's fourth in a row with at least 17 points. Another player making a difference was Devin Lavalais, who earned four points along with 14 rebounds and five assists.

Jena's defeat was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 4-5. As for Marksville, they have been performing well recently as they've won nine of their last 11 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 22-8 record this season.

Coming up, Jena will face off against Alexandria at 7:00 p.m. on February 21st. Alexandria is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 62.6 points per game this season. Marksville does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
