Baseball Game Preview: Homestead Mustangs vs. Palo Alto Vikings

Homestead hasn't had much luck against Palo Alto recently, but that could start to change on Wednesday. The Mustangs will welcome the Vikings at 4:00 p.m. Homestead's pitching crew has only allowed 3.9 runs per game this season, so Palo Alto's hitters will have their work cut out for them.

Having struggled with six losses in a row, Homestead turned things around against Fremont on Saturday. Their pitchers stepped up to hand the Firebirds a 4-0 shutout. The game was the first time the Mustangs have beaten the Firebirds on their field since April 30, 2016.

Homestead saw seven different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jayden Duong, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one run. Another was William Hsu, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one RBI.

Meanwhile, Palo Alto fell victim to Hollister and their airtight pitching crew on Saturday. They took a 3-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Haybalers. The Vikings' defeat signaled the end of their five-game winning streak.

Palo Alto also got a good showing from Ian Johnston, who tossed 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Johnston has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two hits in four consecutive appearances.

Homestead's win bumped their record up to 10-12. As for Palo Alto, their loss dropped their record down to an identical 10-12.

Homestead couldn't quite get it done against Palo Alto when the teams last played back in April of 2024 as they fell 6-2. Can the Mustangs avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
