Softball Game Preview: Northgate Flames vs. Rochester Rams

Northgate has gone a perfect 4-0 against Rochester recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Friday. The Northgate Flames will be playing at home against the Rochester Rams at 4:00 p.m. The two teams are strolling into their contests after big wins in their previous games.

Northgate made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Carlynton, but they still couldn't quite topple them. Northgate put the hurt on Carlynton with a sharp 15-4 win on Wednesday. With that victory, the Flames brought their scoring average up to 6.5 runs per game.

Johna Abramowicz was a major factor no matter where she played. She struck out nine batters over five innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off six hits. Abramowicz was even better at the plate, going 3-for-4 with three runs, four RBI, and two doubles. That's the most hits she has posted since back in April of 2024.

In other batting news, Bayleigh Hooper was a standout: she scored three runs while going 4-for-4. Those runs marked the first that she scored this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Michaela DeFlorimonte, who scored four runs and stole Two bases. while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.

Northgate always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .686. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Meanwhile, Rochester had to travel to play their first game of the season, but the final result was worth the trip. They were the clear victor by a 22-7 margin over Freedom Area on Thursday. The win was a breath of fresh air for the Rams as it put an end to their five-game losing streak dating back to last season.

The victory got Northgate back to even at 2-2. As for Rochester, their win bumped their record up to 1-0.

Northgate beat Rochester 15-11 in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Does Northgate have another victory up their sleeve, or will Rochester turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
