Softball Recap: Gracie Bourgeois Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat East St. John

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Pine Prairie, Destrehan was happy to have turned things around on Tuesday. They never let East St. John get on the board and left with a 17-0 win. Destrehan might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 11 games by seven runs or more this season.

Londyn Lee made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. What's more, she gave up only zero walks, the fewest she's had over her last six matchups. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 1-for-1.

In other pitching news, Kallie Oubre looked comfortable as she pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in strikeouts (three).

Back at the plate, Gracie Bourgeois was a standout: she fired off two home runs and six RBI while going 2-for-2. Those six RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Ava Burkett, who went 2-for-3 with one home run and six RBI.

Destrehan was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .429. They are 11-1 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Destrehan's victory bumped their record up to 16-8. As for East St. John, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 9-6.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Destrehan will head out to take on Central Catholic at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Central Catholic has struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 7.2 runs per game on average), something Destrehan will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for East St. John, they will head out on the road to face off against Bourgeois at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
