Softball Game Preview: Waynesfield-Goshen Tigers vs. Cory-Rawson Fighting Hornets

The Waynesfield-Goshen Tigers will take on the Cory-Rawson Fighting Hornets at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Waynesfield-Goshen is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.9 runs per game this season.

Waynesfield-Goshen is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They put the hurt on Allen East with a sharp 19-4 victory on Wednesday. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Tigers.

Waynesfield-Goshen got a massive performance out of Tarynn Vorhes, who got on base in all five of her plate appearances with four runs, one double, and one RBI. Those four runs gave Vorhes a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Makenna Shaw, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI.

Waynesfield-Goshen was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .500. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Meanwhile, Cory-Rawson was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat. They came up short against Hardin Northern, falling 14-4.

Addyson Duffman made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-2 with two runs and one triple.

Waynesfield-Goshen's win bumped their record up to 6-3. As for Cory-Rawson, their loss dropped their record down to 3-8.

Cory-Rawson's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Waynesfield-Goshen hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .363. It's a different story for Cory-Rawson, though, as they've only averaged .244. Will they be able to contain Waynesfield-Goshen's hitters?

Waynesfield-Goshen took their victory against Cory-Rawson in their previous matchup back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 15-0 score. Will the Tigers repeat their success, or do the Fighting Hornets have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
