Softball Game Preview: Campo Verde Coyotes vs. Gilbert Tigers

The Campo Verde Coyotes will head out on the road to challenge the Gilbert Tigers at 3:45 p.m. on Monday.

In Thursday's Canine Competition, Campo Verde didn't have enough. They lost 10-2 to Horizon on Thursday. Having soared to a lofty 11 runs in the game before, the Coyotes couldn't push the score so high this time.

Meanwhile, while Gilbert put up plenty of runs on Wednesday, the same can't be said for Dobson. Gilbert was the clear victors by an 11-0 margin over Dobson. Considering the Tigers have won three matchups by more than nine runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.

Gilbert got a massive performance out of Arianna Leon, who scored two runs and stole Four bases. while going 4-for-4. Leon has been hot, having posted at least one stolen base the last five times she's played. Serenity Romero was another key player, going 2-for-3 with five RBI, one triple, and one stolen base.

Gilbert always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .545. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Dobson only posted an OBP of .062.

The win made it two in a row for Gilbert and bumps their season record up to 4-5. A key ingredient in that success has been their performance when it comes to strikeouts: they averaged an imposing 7.5 strikeouts in those games compared to only 2.29 in the others. As for Campo Verde, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost eight of their last ten games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-10 record this season.
