Football Recap: Dekalb Starts Season with Loss at Home

DeKalb unfortunately couldn't capitalize on their home-field advantage in their season opener. They took a 14-6 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Angola Hornets on Friday. The Barons were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Hornets apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in August of 2024.

Eli McCormick threw for 158 yards on 13 of 25 attempts. Xavier Bell was his top target, picking up 84 receiving yards. On the ground, Brady Culler rushed for 90 yards.

The critical scores for Angola came from Hawk Hasselman and Dallas Davidson.

DeKalb wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next matchup, a 28-7 victory against Garrett on the 29th. As for Angola, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 21-6 defeat against Leo on the 29th.
