Softball Recap: Columbia Central Wins Going Away Against Spring Hill

Columbia Central won the last time they faced Spring Hill and things went their way on Tuesday too. The Lions put the hurt on the Raiders with a sharp 17-2 victory. The Lions might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight matches by six runs or more this season.

Teri Staggs was a standout: she scored three runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4. Those three hits gave her a new career-high. Jayla Gaskey was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-3.

Columbia Central was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .480. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Spring Hill only posted a batting average of .308.

Columbia Central is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-4 record this season. As for Spring Hill, they are on a seven-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-8.

We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. Columbia Central is set to take on their familiar foe Coffee County Central at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Lions 3.2, the Red Raiders 3.4) so any runs scored will be well earned. Meanwhile, Spring Hill will square off against rival Lincoln County at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday.
