Recap: Overhills Jaguars vs. Seventy-First Falcons

The Overhills Jaguars struggled with threes on Thursday (the Seventy-First Falcons had eight more) and sadly the final score reflected it. Overhills ended up on the wrong side of a tough 80-54 walloping at the hands of Seventy-First. While losing is never fun, Overhills can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 273rd, while Seventy-First is ranked 81st).

Several Jaguars players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Jordan Bryant, who scored five points along with seven rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Bryant has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Matthew Poston, who scored six points along with nine rebounds.

Seventy-First's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Julian Wilkerson led the charge by scoring 21 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Mylon Campbell, who scored 16 points.

Overhills' defeat dropped their record down to 2-1. As for Seventy-First, the win makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 3-1.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Overhills will challenge Pinecrest at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Allowing an average of 52 points per game, Pinecrest has struggled on the defensive end, but that doesn't have to be the case in this match. As for Seventy-First, they will head out on the road to face off against Hoke County at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Hoke County has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 173 points over their last three matches.
