Baseball Game Preview: Coral Springs Colts vs. Highland Hawks

The Coral Springs Colts will take on the Highland Hawks in a tournament on Thursday. Highland took a loss in their last matchup and will be looking to turn the tables on Coral Springs, who comes in off a win.

Coral Springs proved they can win big on Monday (they won by seven) and on Tuesday they proved they can win the close ones too. They skirted past Palmetto 8-6. Eight seems to be a good number for the Colts as the team scooped up a win with the same number of runs in their previous game.

Ryan Guthrie was incredible, going 3-for-5 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one triple. Coral Springs is 4-2 when Guthrie posts two or more runs, but 5-6 otherwise. Brandon Matlock was another key player, going 2-for-4 with three RBI.

Meanwhile, Highland didn't have quite enough to beat Pembroke Pines Charter on Tuesday and fell 3-2.

Highland also got a good showing from Weston Lillard, who pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit.

At the plate, Highland saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Benjy Cardone, who scored a run while going 1-for-3.

Highland's defeat dropped their record down to 6-4. As for Coral Springs, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 9-8 record this season.
