Softball Preview: Lakewood Cougars vs. Sehome Mariners        
        
		
            The Lakewood Cougars will head out on the road to  face off against  the Sehome Mariners  at 1:00  p.m.  on Saturday. Lakewood is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.6  runs per game  this season.
Lakewood took a loss when they played away from home  on Tuesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed  on Thursday. Everything went their way against Anacortes as they made off with  a  9-0 win. The  victory continues a trend for the Cougars in their matchups with the Seahawks: they've now won four in a row.

 Katie Krueger made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound,   not allowing a single  earned run while striking out seven over seven innings pitched. She has been consistent: she hasn't  given up  more than two  walks in six consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box,  going a perfect 3-for-3 with four  runs, one  stolen base,  and one  double.
 In other batting news,  Riley Pevny was  excellent,  going 1-for-3 with two  runs and one  stolen base.  Lana Bauer also deserves some recognition as  she  got her first  hit of the season.
 Meanwhile,  after soaring to 25  runs the game before, Sehome was a bit more limited  in their  game  on Thursday. They lost  22-1 to Oak Harbor. The Mariners haven't had much luck with the Wildcats recently, as the team has come up short the last four times they've met.
 The  win was their first  at home , bumping their record up to 3-6. As for Sehome, their loss dropped their record down to 4-6.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart  on Saturday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Lakewood has been retiring batters left and right this season,  having  averaged 7  strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Sehome struggles in that department as   they've been averaging  an even more impressive 8.9  strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
 Lakewood took their  victory against Sehome  when the teams last played  back in March of 2024 by a conclusive  13-0 score. Do  the Cougars have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Mariners turn the tables on them?  We'll have the answer soon enough.
