Volleyball Recap: Cabrillo Comes Up Short

If Cabrillo was riding high fresh off their 3-0 takedown of San Luis Obispo Classical Academy last Thursday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Cabrillo fell 3-1 to the Orcutt Academy Spartans on Tuesday. Conquistadores fans who chose to attend the game sure picked the wrong one: it was the first time the team's lost against the Spartans since on Tuesday.

Cabrillo started the match hot and won the first set, but they struggled down the stretch and lost the last three. The match finished with set scores of 23-25, 25-18, 25-20, 25-20.

Matias Salguero paced Cabrillo's offense, picking up 14 kills. Salguero got some help from Cody Lawton and his 29 assists. Finally, Salguero was also a dominant defender, finishing with a team-high six blocks.

Cabrillo's loss was their fourth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 7-5. As for Orcutt Academy, their record now sits at 15-2.

Cabrillo has already played their next match, a 3-0 defeat against Nipomo on the 20th. As for Orcutt Academy, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 3-0 victory against Templeton on the 20th.
