Basketball Recap: Christian Gibson's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Mayde Creek over Paetow

Mayde Creek was the 76-69 winner over Paetow when they last played one another back in December of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The Mayde Creek Rams took a 60-55 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Paetow Panthers. While losing is never fun, the Rams can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 262nd, while the Panthers are ranked 107th).

Mayde Creek's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Christian Gibson, who posted 15 points. The contest was Gibson's fourth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Jamal Chretien II, who went 5 for 12 en route to 14 points.

This is the second loss in a row for Mayde Creek and nudges their season record down to 12-11. As for Paetow, their win was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 16-10.

Mayde Creek has already played their next game, a 61-48 victory against Tompkins on the 17th. As for Paetow, they will host Morton Ranch at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday. Paetow is facing Morton Ranch at the right time seeing as Morton Ranch is stuck on a nine-game losing streak.
