Football Game Preview: Salesian Mustangs vs. Cantwell-Sacred Heart of Mary Cardinals

For the first time this season, Salesian will have a chance to prove themselves in a conference matchup. After each having a week off, they and the Cantwell-Sacred Heart of Mary Cardinals will shake off the cobwebs and hit the field against one another at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this contest.

Salesian is probably headed into the game with a chip on their shoulder considering Damien just ended the team's three-game winning streak last Friday. They lost 40-18 to the Spartans. The matchup marked the Mustangs' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.

Despite the defeat, Salesian had strong showings from J Anthony Cobb, who rushed for 123 yards, and Joel Brannon, who picked up 40 receiving yards and one TD.

Even if they lost, Salesian's defensive line still kept up the pressure with five sacks. Leading the way was Dylan Edwards with three. He also set a new season-high mark in total tackles with 17. Charles Willis was another major factor on D, picking up a sack and making 11 total tackles (2.0 for loss).

Meanwhile, Cantwell-Sacred Heart of Mary was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap last Friday as they fell 33-27 to Kaiser.

Cantwell-Sacred Heart of Mary's loss dropped their record down to 1-4. As for Salesian, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-2.

Everything came up roses for Salesian against Cantwell-Sacred Heart of Mary when the teams last played back in November of 2024, as the squad secured a 49-0 victory. Will the Mustangs repeat their success, or do the Cardinals have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
