Football Game Preview: Spanish Fork Dons vs. Springville Red Devils

Spanish Fork is 2-7 against Springville since September of 2015 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Dons will take on the Red Devils at 5:00 p.m. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.

Spanish Fork is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Friday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Hunter 42-7. Considering the Dons' offense had been struggling lately, the high-scoring outing was a much-needed turnaround.

Nixon Warren went supernova, rushing for 57 yards and two touchdowns, while also throwing for 234 yards and a pair of TDs while completing 75% of his passes. His passing game has become a key predictor of Spanish Fork's success: the team is undefeated when his passer rating is 100 or higher, but only 1-7 otherwise. The Dons also got help from Kohen Frost, who showed off his sure hands for 134 receiving yards.

Meanwhile, Springville came tearing into two weeks ago's game with five straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 33.6 points), and they left with even more momentum. They took their contest with ease, bagging a 38-10 victory over the Wasps. Spanish Fork better focus on containing Tua Naufahu and Lisiate Valeti as the pair were huge in Springville's win. Naufahu rushed for 124 yards and three scores on only ten carries, while Valeti rushed for 147 yards and one touchdown on only 12 carries. Naufahu really tore up the turf during one magnificent 89-yard run.

Springville was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 334 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 234 rushing yards in five consecutive matchups.

Spanish Fork's record now sits at 4-7. As for Springville, their record is now 9-1.

Spanish Fork was dealt a bruising 49-3 loss at the hands of Springville in their previous meeting on October 9th. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of the Red Devils' Treyton Harris, who rushed for 122 yards and a pair of TDs on only nine carries.
